Let's Talk about Logic

Most people who know me well, will attest that I am a very logical thinker.  I do things that make sense and seem in order.  A friend I used to work with in a crazy environment…would tease me, “Kim, you are going to have to let go of some of the logical thinking around here.  This place is not logical!  Things do not work as they should!”  I’ve asked Siri how many times the word logic appears in the Bible - ZERO!  Because I’m such a logical thinker and decision maker, one might believe I just think and research my moves.  I used to, but I’ve learned that God’s way, God’s plans, are far greater than mine.  In contrast to the number of times logic appears in Scripture, the word faith, according to Siri appears 247 - 450 times depending upon which translation you consult!

I have invited the Small Business Administration to lead a series of workshops for small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs at York Technical College, where I work.  On Thursday, I sat in the back during one of the workshops and the question was, "How does someone make the decision to quit their job and start their own business - how do you make yourself step out on faith like that?"  The presenter said, “You have to do your research to know how much demand there is for your product or service; you have to know who your competitors are; and you don’t just quit your job on Friday - you make a plan for how to save up so that you have some personal funds to survive on while you grow your business.”  (That was logic.)  He went on to say, “Leaving behind your benefits and steady income to start your own business still takes faith, though, even if you make some preparations!  You might start with faith the size of a mustard seed, but I guarantee by the end of that first year, you will have prayed so much, you’ll have faith the size of a lima bean!”  I laughed out loud from the back of the room!

I believe I am working harder in my current role than I ever have in my life.  When I prayed that prayer asking God to expand my territory, I should have been more careful!  I was hired as the Program Manager for Business, IT, and Professional Development - sounds simple enough right!  Well, implied within that title is also Community Interest, hence the SBA workshops!  In the past 12 months, I’ve also become the Program Manager for Certified Nurse Assistants, Massage Therapy, Master Haircare, Phlebotomy, and CPR, and I’m now a CPR Instructor!  We serve York, Chester, and Lancaster Counties!  I have classes to maintain that meet in the evenings Monday thru Thursday and on Saturdays.  I’ve told my husband, there is no way I could have done this job with children at home…which brings me to God’s impeccable timing!  He didn’t give me this job until my children were in college.

Back in 2024 when I decided (or maybe He decided and told me to do it…) to take the courses to become a Realtor, I paid for in-person classes.  The day before the first class was to begin, I received an email that the instructor was ill and the class would be on Zoom with a different instructor.  I was driving when I received the email and I got upset, really upset!  I called the school to complain, drop out, and request a refund, but while on the phone, something said, maybe this is best, don’t drop out.  I stayed in the class and had a wonderful, engaging instructor, yes, over Zoom.  And guess what - something happened, and I attended the final 10 hours of class in a hospital waiting room with my laptop and earbuds.  If I had been in an in-person class, I would have missed the last 10 hours!

Due to the current workload of my “day” job, I have only done real estate referrals, that’s been a comfortable place to be!  I still promote myself as a Realtor, because I am one, I just don’t actively list or take buyers to see properties, I refer them to another Realtor, then receive a small commission at closing.  I’ll say the Lord let me be comfortable in that space for about 6 months, and during that time I learned my day job, because it too was new for me.  I’d say for about the past 2 months, though, He has made me very uncomfortable as a referral agent.  I worked hard to earn my license, and I know His hand was in it.  He gave me a book to write in 2023-23 called 5-Figure Financing: Homeownership and "exceptional" credit are possible on a 5-Figure income, that was intended to inspire people to get their finances in order!  And now, with everything I have going on at work, I did something totally illogical this week - I went back ACTIVE as a Realtor!  And it wasn’t a free decision, but He gave me the money to pay the associated fees, too!  Amen!  And here I go stepping out on faith!

I don’t know what the Lord may be telling you to do that you’re not doing, or hesitating to do.  If your logical mind is saying no way, but you still feel Him nudging you, I’m going to drop a few Scriptures below to help guide your decision-making.  And remember God cares nothing about our logic, He is the way, the truth and the life!  ~John 14:6.

~Romans 12:2
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

~Numbers 23:19
God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfill?

~Hebrews 11:6
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Amen!  If you need a Realtor, do not hesitate to reach out to me!   Yes, I have things going on, but I am called to do His will.  Let me know how I can assist you in your real estate needs!

I Liked "Because I’m such a logical thinker and decision maker, one might believe I just think and research my moves".
I believe scripture that says Lean not on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5) To me your way of logically thinking is given to you by God. I believe that as you prayed you acted on your decisions. Each time before you logically acted you prayed. Each time you prayed you waited on God’s answer or direction.

(My response) I have made moves on plans as they come to me after praying. In my heart and spirit I believe that my moves were directed by God. But only the ones that didn't take much effort on my part and turned out in my favor.

I also liked "I used to, but I’ve learned that God’s way, God’s plans, are far greater than mine".

(My response)
Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future".
Thank God you and I have learned to accept and apply God’s word to our lives daily. It's the only way to survive this world.
