Every year Halloween is celebrated by LOTS of children in our neighborhood and beyond,
and every year I wish we had set some parameters, as a neighborhood.

This year, with a virus circulating among us, we really need to set some parameters.

I first mentioned this on NextDoor on September 20 and the responses seemed favorable.
  • Trick-or-Treating will take place on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 6:30 - 9:00 PM.
  • We need some signs at the entrances!
(Any neighbors who make signs, you're hired!)
  • Set your treats up on a card table or some sort of platform at the end of your driveway.  The tailgate of your pickup will be fine!
  • Separate the treats so that the kids only touch the one treat they are taking.
  • Since it will be dark, you may need a light on the treats.  (Not required, but a suggestion!)
  • Homeowners will remain outside, but 6ft away from the treat station to monitor the guests and replenish the treats when needed.
  • If you want to set up and decorate a tailgate tent for the treats, that will be great!  If you want to play spooky music - also great!
  • At 9:00pm, let's agree to shut it down, go inside and turn off all porch lights as our unified signal that Trick-or-Treat 2020 in Ebenezer is over.

To be safe, we all must practice SOCIAL DISTANCING.

If someone in your household is sick, please don't participate -
BUT let me know,
I and I will bring a special trick-or-treat bag to the children in your home.

Will anyone in our neighborhood participate in the
Teal Pumpkin Project?
Teal pumpkins are for children with food allergies.
Please see this link for more information.

A Few Additional Thoughts:

Traffic.  We tend to draw quite a few people from other neighborhoods and there are lots of cars driving along and lots of children walking.  Any suggestions for how to manage this?

Neighbors in the new section who have the one-way streets where your garage opens...how will you keep people from driving behind your homes?  People unfamiliar with the flow of traffic may not know those paved roads are not for thru-traffic.

At what age do kids typically stop trick-or-treating?

Anyone make signs???

List your address if you will offer special treats for children with food allergies.
