Staying Positive

Lessons Learned - But I Love My Husband

Recently, as I pondered what to say during a presentation about my journey as an author, I thought about the lessons I have learned through my books.  Yes, my books have taught me spiritual lessons.  I truly believe that the best books are not borne in the brain, but in the heart.

Kori and Walton Cantor are the main characters in But I Love My Husband.  They are a mostly-happily married couple who live in Charlotte, NC.    Kori is a Christian, but Walton, not so much.  He attends church with her each week, but does not believe in God.  The part he enjoys is at the end when a few of the parishioners get excited and start their own praise dance in the pews.  In fact, Walton mocks God at times.  He is a smoker and Kori appeals to him to stop.  He says, "If the Lord is so much in control, how can you say cigarettes are going to kill me?  Ain't the Lord supposed to be stronger than cigarettes?" There is also a scene where he ridicules Kori for reading her Bible.

Kori says that her mother told her they would be unequally yoked, but she really believed Walton was the man God intended for her to marry.  She prays daily that her husband will grow to love God like she does.  Until this book, I had never really prayed for my husband.   I hoped my husband, would...  I told my husband I wanted him to...  The concept of actually praying to the Most High God, in Jesus' name, for my husband was new.  I learned that from Kori.  Spoiler Alert:  Kori's praying pays off.  Although MANY interesting things happen in the interim, Walton does give his life over to God.  In fact, by the start of But We're Not Married, Walton is the Pastor of St. Matthew Baptist Church.  Not only does he grow to love God, God makes him responsible for leading the souls of many.

Since writing But I Love My Husband, I have become a praying wife.   There are other important lessons points to ponder from this book but this one has been the most beneficial for me.  If you would like to read But I Love My husband or its sequel, But We're Not Married, please follow the links.
